The Epidemic Behind Closed Doors Isn’t Going Away….
The latest Domestic Violence Statistics show that Domestic abuse and domestic violence are far from being a thing of the past. According to Women’sAid – the latest Domestic Violence Statistics are :
- One in four women will be a victim of some form of domestic violence in their lifetime – many of these on a number of occasions.
- One incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute.
- On average, two women a week are killed by a current or former male partner.
Hypothetically, more spouses have been killed by their partners in the past several years than soldiers have been killed in Iraq.
Domestic Violence has been with us for a very long time, however, it is only in the last ten years that it has been taken seriously as a criminal justice issue. Prior to that, the vast majority of cases were brushed under the carpet with the refrain “it’s just a domestic”.
These latest domestic violence statistics suggest domestic violence is pernicious, serious and criminal.
Domestic Violence and Domestic Abuse breaks up families, ruins lives and has a lasting impact on those it affects.
Only in increasing awareness can we help to highlight the pain and suffering that still goes on for many people behind closed doors.
